I presented at the Drake Music Scotland 20th Anniversary Conference on the design of music notation systems for spatial music and new technology. I have taken ideas from free graphic score and the Signwriting library to produce a set of semi-fixed symbols for playing music on iPads. The idea is to reverse the usual flow of written score, where the sound result is represented and the performer must manipulate the instrument to reproduce the sound, and instead embraces the fact that the performer is given the movements which are required from them and they must reproduce the movements and the sound is the result of those movements. The disadvantage of a new instrument is the lack of a common vocabulary for discussing the performance characteristics, therefore this all needed to be developed.
I also present regularly at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on the Drake Music Scotland week-long course in accessible music-making. I have presented for New Music Scotland at the Queen's Hall in Edinburgh, the Scottish Instrumental Music Teachers' Network and at the CreativeTech panel in Edinburgh.
In 2024 I travelled to Helsinki as the keynote speaker for the ISME IDEAS conference to present on my work in special musical education
